Electrolysis Exemplars Under Development
From ChemPRIME
Electrolysis is of major industrial importance. Of the 10 chemicals whose annual production exceeds 1 million tons, two, sodium hydroxide and chlorine, are produced using this technique. A number of metals, such as aluminum and magnesium, are also produced by electrolysis. In 1975 more than 6.5 percent of all electrical energy produced in the United States was used for electrolysis.
